Written and originally recorded by Yusuf Islam during his career as popular artist Cat Stevens, the song Peace Train has shown a remarkable strength in its message and longevity. It appeared on his album Teaser and the Firecat,
and a number of other album releases. Sung as a message of hope
and peace in an earlier time of war, its message resonated then as it
does today.
Since
abandoning his career as a rock idol, Yusuf Islam has pursued a more
spiritual path. He has, nonetheless, had ongoing collisions
with the notoriety connected with his previous life. See the
Wikipedia entry on Cat Stevens
and read his
interview with Larry King
for a more complete picture.
